The Department of Earth Technology at the UGM Vocational College (SV UGM) signed a memorandum of understanding with PT Kompas Navigasi Indonesia, a company specializing in surveying and mapping equipment.
The signing ceremony took place on Monday (Aug. 12) at the TILC SV UGM Building as part of the Public Lecture for New Students of the Earth Technology Department (DTK) at SV UGM.
The event began with the signing of the partnership documents, represented by the Department of Earth Technology SV UGM and PT Kompas Navigasi Indonesia. This was followed by the handover of a Geodetic GPS grant from PT Kompas Navigasi Indonesia to SV UGM as part of the collaboration.
Dr. Taufik Hery Purwanto, Head of the Earth Technology Department at SV UGM, expressed his appreciation to Kompas Navigasi Indonesia for their willingness to establish this partnership and participate in public lectures and technology demonstrations for students.
“Through this public lecture, we hope that students will gain insights into geospatial studies,” he remarked.
Dr. Endang Soelistiyowati, the Vice Dean for Cooperation and Alumni Affairs at SV UGM, echoed these sentiments in her remarks. She viewed the establishment of this partnership as a positive development and hoped it would continue in the coming years.
The CEO of PT Kompas Navigasi, I Made Nugraha Jaya Wardhana, emphasized that SV UGM should effectively utilize the Geodetic GPS devices granted to enhance the quality of student learning.
“Hopefully, they can be used optimally to improve students’ competencies,” he stated.
Following his remarks, Wardhana conducted a public lecture introducing geospatial science. He also used this opportunity to explain the career opportunities available for DTK students.
He encouraged the new students not to shy away from participating in both intra- and extracurricular campus activities.
“University life is not just about obtaining a diploma. What is truly valuable is how the university trains your thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills. These skills are invaluable and will be crucial in the future,” explained the SV UGM alumnus.
The event, held in the Ballroom of the Teaching Industry Learning Center (TILC) SV UGM, was enthusiastically received by new students who actively engaged in the discussion sessions. During the same event, some students were invited to participate in a LIDAR technology demonstration used in mapping.
Additionally, students who were active during the public lecture received gifts from PT Kompas Navigasi Indonesia.
