Sleman Regency has honored the UGM Faculty of Agriculture (Agriculture UGM) as a Strategic Partner in Human Resources Development for Millennial Farmers.
The Regent of Sleman, Kustini Sri Purnomo, presented the award to Dody Kastono, Head of the Empowerment Team at Agriculture UGM, at the Sleman Multipurpose Building recently during the “Acceleration of 1,000 Millennial Farmers of Sleman Towards Agricultural Product Downstreaming.”
With this award, the Regent of Sleman hopes that the millennial farmers’ groups in Sleman Regency can significantly improve the community’s welfare.
Taufiq Mawadani, Chair of the Millennial Farmers Association of Sleman Region, expressed his hope that millennial farmers’ products would become the most sought-after products in Yogyakarta and throughout Indonesia, focusing on products downstream.
Dr. Idha Widi Arsanti, Head of the Center for Agricultural Education at UGM, stated that millennial farmers need to understand and develop sufficient skills in agricultural business financial management.
The Youth Entrepreneurship and Employment Support Services Scaling-Up Intervention (YESS-SI) program, which will begin in Sleman Regency in 2025, will support this goal.
“Millennial farmers need to realize the importance of managing agricultural business finances to handle the repayment of people’s business credit (KUR). Millennial farmers participating in the YESS-SI program will receive training facilities in the future,” she said at Agriculture UGM on Thursday (Aug. 15).
She emphasized that the UGM Faculty of Agriculture’s involvement in empowering millennial farmers’ economy in Sleman Regency demonstrates a solid commitment to achieving a sustainable life without poverty and a healthy and prosperous life.
