Universitas Gadjah Mada signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Universitas Islam Melaka (UNIMEL), Malaysia, on Tuesday (Aug. 20) at the Multimedia Room 2, UGM Central Office.
Following the signing of the cooperation charter, a discussion session was held to explore potential collaborations between UGM and UNIMEL as a follow-up to the LoI, which was signed by the Secretary of Universitas Gadjah Mada, Dr. Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu, and the Vice-Rector of UNIMEL, Professor Haji Mohd Taib bin Haji Dora.
In his remarks, Dr. Tonralipu emphasized that UGM is very open to any form of cooperation between the two parties in the future.
“We consider any university from Malaysia as an old friend. Feel free to engage in any form of collaboration; we are ready. We also hope to visit Melaka and possibly implement a student exchange program. Our students could study there, and students from UNIMEL could study here,” said Dr. Tonralipu.
Haji Mohd Taib bin Haji Dora welcomed the cooperation, expressing hope for stronger collaboration between the two institutions, particularly in the fields of higher education’s tridharma.
“We look forward to closer cooperation and collaboration between UGM and UNIMEL in the future,” he stated.
Professor Puji Astuti, the UGM Director of Partnerships and Global Relations, mentioned several areas of possible collaboration, including joint publications, research, staff and student exchanges, and visiting professor programs.
“We could conduct joint seminars, conferences, webinars, and other areas of collaboration that must be mutually agreed upon by both parties,” she said.
Additionally, both parties discussed the possibility of launching a double degree program for the two universities and the system that could be implemented if this program materializes.
