The Faculty of Philosophy at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has reaffirmed its strategic role in supporting the implementation and internalization of Pancasila values, particularly within regional higher education institutions.
The Faculty of Philosophy team recently conducted a workshop on the development of Pancasila studies at Universitas PGRI Wiranegara (Uniwara) in Pasuruan, East Java, on Saturday (Aug. 24).
The workshop was part of the community service initiative by the UGM team, comprising Dr. Heri Santoso, Abdul Malik Usman, Imam Wahyudi, and Surono, a doctoral student in Philosophy. This event also continued the collaboration between Uniwara and UGM’s Faculty of Philosophy, which began in 2023.
As the head of the community service team, Dr. Santoso explained that the development of Pancasila studies aims to apply Pancasila values in education, research, publication, and community service.
This year’s theme focuses on knowledge development, particularly in social, cultural, and religious studies.
“Ideally, to develop sciences based on Pancasila, scholars, and lecturers should start with the study of the philosophy of science and Pancasila philosophy, as these are the philosophical branches underpinning this discourse,” he said.
According to Dr. Santoso, today’s higher education institutions face various phenomena and challenges related to social-humanities sciences in explaining the relevance of the philosophy of science for academic development.
Also, things related to Pancasila-based knowledge pioneered by scholars include Pancasila Philosophy, Pancasila State and Law by Notonagoro, Pancasila Economic Science by Mubyarto, and Prophetic Social Science by Kuntowijoyo.
“There is a profound concern about the condition or crisis of science in Indonesia. Although there are concepts, models, scientific communities, and institutions, the movement’s continuity is interrupted,” he remarked.
Abdul Malik Usman explained that the workshop is expected to serve as momentum for internalizing Pancasila values in academic fields across Indonesian higher education institutions.
The anticipated outcomes include teaching materials, modules, learning videos, scholarly works by lecturers, and integration and internalization of Pancasila values.
Usman stated that as citizens, Pancasila, as the ideology and foundation of the state, is final. The values of Pancasila must continue to live, internalized in the thoughts, attitudes, and actions of all citizens, including the academic community in higher education.
Even in UGM’s Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum, topics intersect with Pancasila values, such as the Concept of Divinity and Humanity in Islam, Islamic Organizations, and Indonesian Nationalism in Diversity.
“These topics are designed in such a way that, although they do not explicitly mention Pancasila, they implicitly aim to manifest, maintain, crystallize, and revitalize the noble values of Pancasila,” he explained.
The Uniwara Rector, Dr. Daryono, welcomed the collaboration with UGM’s Faculty of Philosophy. According to him, the workshop on developing Pancasila studies will further encourage the independent implementation of Pancasila values and act as a catalyst for other higher education institutions in Indonesia.
“It is hoped that the results of this workshop will strengthen the implementation of Pancasila values in the learning process at Uniwara and disseminate these good practices to other higher education institutions,” he said.
