Irwan Hidayat, President Director of PT Industri Jamu dan Farmasi Sidomuncul Tbk, visited UGM on Tuesday (Sep. 3).
UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia warmly welcomed the visit. The visit’s agenda included discussions on collaboration in herbal studies and the development of superfoods or nutrient-rich foods.
Professor Emilia expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership opportunity offered by Sidomuncul, highlighting UGM’s strong position in herbal research.
“We are open to collaboration, as UGM has a center for herbal studies and extensive research in this field,” explained Professor Emilia, opening the discussion.
Irwan Hidayat stated that Sidomuncul is particularly interested in collaborating with UGM to develop herbal products, focusing on plants such as curcuma, ginger, and turmeric.
“Curcuma, ginger, and turmeric can be developed into high-quality superfoods. The key to marketing is a good product, so we can start from the source, from the seeds so other countries can buy from us,” said Irwan Hidayat.
He further emphasized Sidomuncul’s full support for research on curcuma and other herbal products, offering to contribute all company resources to the research efforts.
“Everything we have will be donated to support UGM’s research,” he affirmed.
This visit marked the beginning of a strategic partnership between Sidomuncul and UGM to develop and research herbal products. The collaboration is expected to foster innovation in herbal processing and boost the global competitiveness of Indonesian products.
With Sidomuncul’s support and UGM’s commitment to research, this partnership is hoped to yield superior products that benefit public health and contribute economically to the nation.
