Mapala UGM and UI organized a 660-kilometer bike ride from Bulaksumur UGM Yogyakarta to UI Campus in Depok on Thursday (Sep. 5).
The “Jogja-Jakarta Bike Ride” commemorates Mapala UI’s 60th anniversary under the theme “Ada Jejakmu di Ceritaku” (Your Trace in My Story).
The UGM’s Mapala called Mapagama, and faculty, staff, and alumni in the Gadjah Mada Gowes (GamaGo) community supported the event.
Dr. Hatma Suryatmojo and Professor Budi Wignyosukarto from the GamaGo community sent off the 660 km bike team, which consisted of 10 senior Mapala UI members and one senior Mapagama member. Twelve GamaGo participants also joined the send-off.
Professor M. Baiquni, advisor of Mapagama and Chair of the UGM Board of Professors (DGB UGM), welcomed the joint bike ride as part of a healthy living campaign and green campus initiative through cycling.
“This aligns with the concept of a Green Campus—leafy, healthy, and environmentally friendly,” he said.
He emphasized that DGB UGM is committed to supporting education, research, and community service that are aligned with sustainable development goals. The board also promotes sharing knowledge and UGM’s values and ethics, as mandated in its statutes.
Professor Baiquni mentioned that one of the indicators of UIGM (UI Green Matrix) for a Green Campus seeks to implement the tri-dharma effectively—smart, healthy, comfortable, safe, environmentally friendly, aesthetic, and sustainable—to support the productivity and activities of the academic community.
