The UGM Academic Senate (SA UGM) held a plenary session to discuss the plan for evaluating the performance of the UGM Board of Trustees (MWA UGM).
This session also included the presentation of MWA’s work report for the 2021–2024 period. The meeting occurred on Thursday (Oct. 17) at the UGM Senate Hall.
Professor Adi Utarini, secretary of the MWA, emphasized the MWA’s authority and its position of overseeing the SA UGM, Rector, and UGM Board of Professors (DGB UGM), all within a coordinated structure.
“I must reiterate the institutional check-and-balance relationship to remind us all,” she said.
Professor Utarini also presented the MWA’s achievements, starting with widening access to UGM’s Academic Hospital (RSA UGM) and considering the best scenarios to improve emergency services, starting with road infrastructure improvements.
Additionally, MWA UGM initiated the development of religious facilities for all faiths, including the renovation of the Mardliyah Mosque, which cost up to IDR 100 billion.
Other successful projects included the establishment of the UGM Innovation and Creativity Center (GIK UGM), a futuristic building designed to support students’ work readiness and enhance their competitiveness.
“GIK UGM’s activities are already visible, with many academic discussions and Habitat Day celebrations held there,” she noted.
The Gamasteps mutual fund also became a standout achievement during the MWA UGM’s term, resulting from collaboration between institutions and individuals outside UGM.
“In collaboration with BRI, the mutual fund has been entirely allocated at the rector’s request to fund campus programs that couldn’t be financed,” she added.
Professor Utarini concluded her presentation by calling for mutual respect for each entity’s authority and cooperation in performing their duties.
She also requested that the MWA’s performance evaluation not be scored but focused on providing constructive criticism and suggestions.
This was well received by the meeting attendees, who submitted their feedback on paper to be collected and forwarded to the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.
In her remarks, UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia expressed hope that MWA UGM could provide more optimal support for the downstream use of research and knowledge.
“This downstream is indeed a major challenge. Support from various parties is needed to accelerate it,” the rector concluded.
