The UGM Photography Student Activity Unit (UKM UFO UGM) held a photography exhibition titled ‘Voyage Exhibition: Jejak Karsa.’
The exhibition, which ran for two days, Thursday-Friday, 24-25 Oct., was open to the public and featured various photographs showcasing community service activities carried out by the UGM academic community.
The exhibition, held in the Lobby of the UGM Central Library, presented around 32 photographic works by UGM academics.
“There were about 13 exhibitors from the UGM academic community who submitted their photos to us, resulting in 32 photos displayed at the exhibition,” explained Thareeq Arkan, Head of the Exhibition Division of the UKM UFO UGM.
Arkan explained that the UGM community service activities showcased in this exhibition were very diverse, ranging from the UGM Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) to student organization work programs, individual service initiatives, and various other community activities that embody sustainability and diversity principles.
All these community service activities were photographed and carried out directly by UGM students from various faculties and schools, including the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Biology, Faculty of Animal Science, Faculty of Psychology, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the Vocational College.
Vaza Lutfhan from the Vocational College, who also displayed his work, explained that the photo he exhibited was taken during his KKN in Bali in 2023.
He explained that his work, ‘A Little Glimpse of Selemadeg,’ captures the moment farmers and fishermen were working in Selemadeg, Tabanan, Bali.
Through his work, Lutfhan expressed his concern about the declining interest among young people, particularly Generation Z, in becoming farmers and fishermen.
“It was a great experience to share stories with the locals in their daily lives as farmers and fishermen,” Lutfhan said.
After spending approximately one month preparing for the event, the entire process was carried out directly by the members of UFO UGM, from collecting the photo works, curating the photos, and printing them to setting them up at the exhibition venue.
According to Hilwa, a member of the exhibition division, mounting the photos was the biggest challenge in preparing for the exhibition.
“The toughest challenge was mounting the photos onto the polyfoam. It was tricky and required extra caution,” Hilwa explained.
Despite the difficulties, the ‘Voyage Exhibition: Jejak Karsa’ was successfully held.
In addition to serving as a platform to educate people about the importance of dedication in community service through photographic works, this exhibition also succeeded in enhancing the influence and presence of UKM UFO UGM, making it more well-known, both within UGM and externally.
This was reflected in the response of one of the exhibition visitors.
“I’m proud that UFO could organize an exhibition like this. The photos are great, and I’ve realized that UGM students often do KKN in distant places,” said Lala, a student from another university.
