Students from the UGM Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) Unit YO-147 organized free health checkups on Sunday (Dec. 1) in Terbah Village, Gunungkidul Regency, to improve public health through the Healthy Living Community Movement (GERMAS).
The activities included health checks such as blood pressure and blood sugar levels, eye examinations, and ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) screenings. The event also featured first aid training, group exercise sessions, a women’s volleyball match, and an MSME bazaar.
Dr. Eko Setyobudi, the program’s field supervisor, praised the KKN-PPM team’s efforts and acknowledged their commitment to implementing impactful, community-oriented programs during their 1.5-month tenure.
“I hope this relatively short period brings significant meaning to the students and the community,” he remarked.
The Terbah community also received a commendation for their active participation in the program. Dr. Setyobudi noted that the community had provided invaluable lessons and insights to the UGM students.
Areta Adzroo Imtiyaznabilla and Barnice Silva, two students involved in the program, shared their experiences. As part of the organizing team for GERMAS in Terbah Village, they expressed their dedication to delivering positive contributions despite the short service period.
“We collaborated with various parties, such as local health centers and village health cadres, to conduct activities like health checks, group exercises, and volleyball matches to promote healthy lifestyles,” Imtiyaznabilla explained.
The students were grateful for the high level of enthusiasm the community showed. This encouragement inspired the team to innovate further.
“We hope the KKN program brings long-term benefits and encourages the community to adopt healthy habits in daily life,” Silva added.
Muhammad Reza Hendriansah, the Unit YO-147 coordinator for Pathuk and the activities supervisor, expressed his pride in the students’ dedication. He emphasized addressing community needs through health checks, first-aid training, and group exercises.
“As a supervisor, I am proud of the community’s enthusiasm and the commitment of the Terbah subunit team in making this program successful. I hope it brings lasting positive impacts on the community’s health and serves as a model for future KKN programs, with a continued emphasis on empowering the community,” Hendriansah stated.
The village head of Terbah, Giyanto, expressed his gratitude to the KKN-PPM Unit YO-147 team for facilitating health-related activities. He highlighted that GERMAS is an annual event conducted with UGM students to raise awareness about physical, environmental, and nutritional health.
Regarding nutrition improvement, Giyanto hoped the students could support the village’s economic development through supplementary programs.
“This year’s GERMAS also featured an MSME bazaar. I fully support such activities as they provide comprehensive information for the community, helping them identify individual health risk factors. We’ve maintained this partnership with UGM for three years now,” he concluded.
