The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Gadjah Mada (Animal Science UGM) celebrated its 55th Anniversary and 11th Lustrum on Monday (Nov. 11).
UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia expressed her pride in the faculty’s various achievements, especially noting that 30 percent of its academic staff are professors.
“This percentage of professors is among the highest at UGM,” Professor Emilia stated.
The rector advised Animal Science UGM to continue increasing the number of postgraduate students, research outputs, and international collaborations.
In his report speech, Professor Budi Guntoro, Dean of Animal Science UGM, highlighted the student mobility programs, including internships and credit earning, that have helped undergraduate students gain exposure to international academic environments.
He also mentioned that the faculty has been awarded the Inter-University Center of Excellence (PUAPT) program, which includes several projects such as the construction of a barn at the PIAT, a Feed Mill Mini Plant, and organic fertilizer processing facilities.
Additionally, the Kedaireka program continues to be a flagship initiative to enhance researcher capacity and promote the downstream of animal husbandry products.
In terms of human resources, the dean reported the addition of five new lecturers and four non-teaching staff, further strengthening the faculty’s workforce.
The Chair of the Indonesian Sheep and Goat Breeders Association (HPDKI), Yudi Guntara Noor, delivered a speech during the faculty’s open senate meeting.
The event continued with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with PT Citra Agro Buana Semesta and PT Global Dairi Alami, partner and alumni awards to Teguh Boediyana, Achmad Dawami, and Professor Zaenal Bachruddin, a soft launch of animal husbandry products, and a traditional tumpeng cutting ceremony.
