The Universitas Gadjah Mada Campus Mosque has again organized Ramadan on Campus (RDK) for the year 1446 Hijri.
The event features a series of educational programs, including the Mimbar Subuh lecture, Safari Ramadan, and the Ramadan Public Lecture, with prominent intellectuals and scholars as speakers.
With the theme ‘Collaborating for Good, Spreading Benefits for a Sustainable Future,’ the event aims to foster compassion and solidarity among fellow Muslims.
RDK also held the ‘Gebyar Sore’ or ‘Gerak Bareng Masyarakat Sosial,’ a social service initiative. On the first day of Ramadan, Gebyar Sore took place at the AR Fahrudin Islamic Boarding School, Triharjo Village, Wates District, Kulon Progo, on Saturday (Mar. 3).
Sudarminto, the caretaker of AR Fahrudin Islamic Boarding School, explained in his opening remarks that the pesantren was established with the mission of shaping young preachers.
Founded in 2014 at the initiative of teachers from SMA Muhammadiyah Wates, the school was established to accommodate students from distant areas who had no accommodation.
“The original purpose was to support and provide shelter for underprivileged children,” he explained.
He continued, stating that AR Fahrudin Islamic Boarding School was built with the mission of training young preachers, given the lack of preachers at SMA Muhammadiyah Wates and its surrounding areas.
Sudarminto mentioned that one of the subjects taught at the pesantren is the rhetoric of preaching, a branch of communication studies that discusses how to convey messages to others effectively so that the message can be well-received.
During the Gebyar Sore event, a variety of activities were held, not only entertaining but also beneficial for the children at the boarding school and the surrounding community.
Activities such as health checks, collaborative art projects, interactive games, group iftar, and the RDK Sharing program were enthusiastically participated in by all the students.
Educational sessions on ‘Preventing Gender-Based Violence for a Blunder-Free Generation’ and ‘Reproductive Health Awareness Towards a Glorious Demographic Bonus’ were also conducted.
These topics were considered essential, given that most participants were high school students.
“We chose to focus on sexual violence awareness and reproductive health because the participants are mostly high school students. At this stage of entering adulthood, education on these topics is crucial,” said Faris Zakiy Ramadhan, Coordinator of Creative Events for RDK UGM 1446 Hijri.
He added that Gebyar Sore also implemented the theme of collaboration for good through tangible projects.
One such project involved the reuse of inorganic waste to create aesthetically valuable objects, known as Kaca RDK.
This project was the result of a collaboration aimed at benefiting everyday life while symbolizing efforts toward environmental preservation.
Gebyar Sore not only served as a platform for sharing joy but also provided educational opportunities and skill development for the children at the boarding school and the surrounding community.
Through collaboration and a spirit of unity, Gebyar Sore successfully spread benefits and created a lasting positive impact.
“We hope that events like this can continue to be held and inspire many others to contribute to building a better society,” he concluded.
