To prepare for rapid global change and technological disruption, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) encourages graduates to embrace creativity and adaptability.
Paksi Raras Alit, an alumnus of UGM and the founder of Jawacana Javanese Script School, shared insights on the importance of creativity in the modern era.
The alumnus from the Javanese Literature Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences (FIB UGM), emphasized that creativity is now a fundamental asset for entering the 21st-century professional world.
“This creativity must have relevance, at least to contemporary life,” he stated before prospective Bachelor’s and Applied Bachelor’s graduates on Tuesday (May 27) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
According to Alit, the younger generation is not only challenged to earn an income but also to prove their existence through quality work with humanitarian value. Creative products that fail to innovate will lose in the competition.
“If a work of art does not glorify humanity, it is not art,” he asserted.
Alit also touched upon the role of technology, including artificial intelligence (AI), in supporting the creative industry.
He views AI not as a threat, but as a tool that must be understood and utilized.
“Art workers who cannot adapt to AI are stubborn writers. I believe those who can master AI will be the ones who survive,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, the Vice Treasurer of the Central Board of the Gadjah Mada Alumni Family (Kagama), Anwarini, stated that equipping prospective graduates by inviting alumni is one of Kagama’s manifestations as a hub for mutual learning, networking, and self-exploration among alumni.
“Prospective graduates don’t need to fear not becoming anything. Wherever we are, we can be beneficial in our own capacities, just like Mas Paksi Raras Alit today,” she said.
UGM will hold its graduation ceremony for 1,408 Bachelor’s and Applied Bachelor’s graduates on Wednesday (May 28) at Grha Sabha Pramana.
This briefing for prospective graduates is expected to shape adaptable individuals, producing graduates who are community-oriented, independent, and sustainable.
