Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Library and Archives has once again achieved a remarkable milestone at the national level, earning third place in the 2025 Academic Library Innovation Award (ALIA) organized by the Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI) Central Board. Representing the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), UGM was recognized as one of Indonesia’s most innovative academic libraries.
The 2025 ALIA competition was part of the 4th Conference of Indonesian Higher Education Libraries (KPPTI) held from October 8 to 10, 2025 at Tarumanagara University, Jakarta.
This year’s conference adopted the theme “AI-Driven Academic Libraries: Innovation, Ethics, and the Future of Knowledge Management”, highlighting the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as a driver of innovation in academic libraries.
Head of UGM Library and Archives, Arif Surachman, expressed his appreciation for this achievement, emphasizing that libraries are not merely repositories of collections but centers of innovation and academic creativity.
“Our integration of AI demonstrates that libraries can adapt to technological change while upholding scientific values and inclusivity,” said Surachman on Monday (Oct. 13).
In the competition, UGM Library and Archives presented an innovation titled “Integrating Artificial Intelligence in the Transformation of UGM Library and Archives: Siniar Pustaka-Kintaka.” The project showcased the use of AI technology to support digital information services through an interactive educational podcast platform.
Lilik Kurniawati Uswah, Head of the Innovation Team, explained that Siniar Pustaka-Kintaka embodies a user-oriented service transformation. The podcast delivers relevant, inclusive, and research-based educational content.
Each episode has been granted an Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) certificate in recognition of the scholarly contributions of its speakers. The innovation integrates AI across all production stages from planning to feedback analysis.
“This podcast is our way of expanding access to information, promoting collections and services, and building closer connections with users beyond physical boundaries,” said Uswah.
The innovation team, consisting of Barid Budi Wicaksono, Delta Ira Anggreanie, Stevanus Deni Nur Prasetyo, and Wasilatul Baroroh, collaborated to develop a new approach to knowledge dissemination by combining technology, information literacy, and social inclusivity in each production.
“We want to show that a library can be a creative space that unites knowledge and experience,” Uswah added.
The uniqueness of Siniar Pustaka-Kintaka lies in its diverse topics ranging from health, history, and philosophy to psychology. All themes are developed from primary sources such as archives, interviews, and validated scientific research.
“We ensure that every episode is based on credible data and literature, not merely opinion,” concluded Uswah.
