Faculty of Animal Science

Faculty of Animal Science is the youngest faculty among other faculties in UGM. In September 15, 1955 Faculty of Veterinary Medicine UGM was developed to become Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Husbandry (FVM & AH). Upon the motivation and support derived from the society and initiative coming from several lecturers, in the year 1964 two departments was established at the Faculty i.e. 1) Department of Veterinary Medicine and 2) Department of Animal Husbandry. Based on the Letter of Decision of Deputy Minister for Higher Education dated June 1st, 1966, FVM & AH was split into two faculties i.e. 1) Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and 2) Faculty of Animal Husbandry (FAS). However, they were still managed under FVM &AH.

Starting November 10th, 1969, Minister of Education and Culture decided to establish Faculty of Animal Science UGM legally with the Letter of Decision of Minister of Education and Culture dated November 2nd, 1969, no. 1449/KT/I/SP/1969 together with the appointment of new Dean and Secretary of Faculty of Animal Science. Faculty conducted one study program i.e. Animal Husbandry. Since then the number of faculties in the University became 18 faculties. With the Letter of Decision of Director General of Higher Education no. 221/Dikti/Kep/96, dated July 11th, 1996, the study program in FAS was developed into four study programs namely 1) Nutrition and Feed Animal, 2) Animal Production, 3) Social and Economic of Animal Production, and 4) Animal Product Technology.

Based on evaluations, tracer studies and recommendations derived from alumni, and to anticipatie the fast development of animal industries, and for the development of system of education in the faculty that enable student to possess knowledge and skills and professionalism in animal industries, starting 2006 the program study was reduced to become one study program i.e. Animal Science and Industry with Letter of Decision of Rector UGM no. 187/P/SK/HT/2006 dated May 1st, 2006.
