YOGYAKARTA – Five Nursing students of Universitas Gadjah Mada have made a wooden hip bone replica for medical students who are studying anatomy and birth delivery. It is light in weight as well as easy and cheaper to make.
“We make mini replicas of the hip bone, weighing 60 grams,” Raani Nur, one of the students, told journalists on Friday (11/9).
Along with fellow students Iffah Hanim, Ayu Indah, Noor Rofi, and Ummi Khairun Niswah, they make the replica and name it ‘Mithompel’ (Mini Phantom Pelvis).
Raani explained they made the wooden replica for easy use, “We can carry Mithompel anywhere we go,” she said.
Ayu Indah added they involved five wood craft makers from Krebet and Palbapang villages in Bantul regency. “One person can make one replica each day,” she said, adding that it is sold at IDR140 thousands per piece. Up to 100 pieces have been sold since they put on an advert on social media. Most of the buyers are students. The replica comes with a baby doll.
The product is for the Student Creativity Programme for Entrepreneurship organised by the Research and Technology Ministry for Higher Learning. Raani said they would continue to work on it for business purposes.
