UGM students have again participated in world events. It’s Sekar Ayu Woro Yunita, Forestry student, that was elected keynote speaker in the World Forestry Congress 2015 in Durban, Africa, held from 7-11 September 2015.
Sekar is the youngest keynote speaker in that event. “I’m proud to be one of the keynote speakers in the world conference,” she said on Wednesday on campus.
Sekar said they had been selected by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (UNFAO) in a selection done from May – June 2015.
Sekar added the forestry conference is a project held every six years by the UNFAO. It involves forestry stakeholders from government, NGOs, private groups and academics.
In her speech, Sekar sent a message to all world leaders to start invest through the young generation through innovative education. She asked the world leaders and conference participants to get really involved in world development, encouraging the young generation in decision making locally, regionally, and internationally.
“We are the ones responsible for the future. This is the time to make contributions and make our voice heard,” she concluded.
