Merpati Putih UGM won Martial Arts Championship

Merpati Putih UGM Juara Umum Pencak Silat Se-DIY dan Jateng

Merpati Putih of UGM Martial arts team, won the Martial Arts Championship for DIY-Central Java Region held by Akademi Teknologi Kulit Yogyakarta, September 15th to 17th 2016. This event was followed by groups in DIY and Central Java area, including UGM, UNS, Gunung Kidul, Klaten, Jatilawang, Atma Jaya, De Brito, UNDIP, Temanggung Pahlawan, Salatiga, Perhutani Semarang, BPD Semarang.

According to Ozi, the chairman of Merpati Putih UGM, UGM team won six gold medals, one silver medal and three bronze medals. "It is very unexpected since we had minimu preparation and we did not have full team athlete," Ozi said in a release sent on Monday (26/9).

Of the three categories competed, Ozi said, as many as 4 gold and 3 bronze were snatched at the match category, 2 gold at the art category and one silver medal at the power category. According to the man, the achievements achived by Merpati Putih UGM is expected to motivate the members of the other MP athletes to improve their achievement. Moreover, in the near future MP UGM will follow several championships, such as national championship in Lampung and in Universitas Brawijaya Cup. "We hope this achievement could provide motivation for potential athletes in order to keep their spirit and consistency to practice for the next competition," he said. (UGM / Gusti Grehenson)
