Generasi Muda Penentu Masa Depan Kebhinnekaan

Issue on conflict between groups recently sparked questions on the significance of Pancasila value in the present times. In this situation, the millenial generation has the signifcant role to be the backbone of the nation in safeguarding pluralism which is one of the pillars of Indonesia. This was said by Deputy Head of the Presidential Staff Office, Jaleswari Pramodharwardani, whilst giving a public lecture at Faculty of Law UGM on Thursday (9/2).

The political disturbance that is happening in her opinion shows that it seems Pancasila no longer becomes a popular and interesting ideology. Actually, a research by LIPI in 2007, found that Pancasila is not popular anymore among students.

She said the current situation showed the failure of the old generation to handle potential for weakening the pluralism. As a matter of fact, the stance of the young generation today is the key to determine the condition of Indonesia in the next ten or twenty years.

She expressed optimism, however, that idealism and creativity of the young generation can make a breakthrough to resolving current problems.

In the same event, UGM law lecturer, Oce Madril, S.H., M.A.Dev, reminded how pluralims has become an inherent value among Indonesians. To debate on pluralism issue again is a step backward for Indonesia.

He hoped the students would play a role in nurturing pluralism by upholidng law and refraining from acts that can damage the order so far established.

“The law has to be made the reference. If we damage the order, the implication will stretch long as it will change the basic norms with which Indonesia has been establised,” Oce concluded.
