In order to reduce the use of plastic bag during shopping, UGM students design a wallet which can also be used as a shopping bag. It is an eco-friendly wallet named as E-Dom. “This wallet is designed not only to have a function like the usual wallet, but the bag inside the wallet can also be used as a shopping bag. Therefore, we do not need to use a plastic bag to carry our groceries,” said Aziz Askaputra, team leader of this eco-friendly wallet on Friday (16/6).
E-Dom is also developed by the other team members, namely Permata Hayuningtyas, Andhika Gilang Al Afgani, and Rosyida Fajarwati, all from Faculty of Engineering as well as Aviva Lintang Tunjungsari from Faculty of Economics and Business. Those five students join the Students Creativity Programme which develops a business product innovation by designing an eco-friendly wallet.
Aviva Lintang Tunjungsari said E-Dom is made with a fashionable design, quality materials, and various pattern combinations. Currently, there are four kinds of product which are being marketed. All of them use synthetic leather, canvas, parachute material, satin, and velvet as the basic materials. “We use silver parachute material that is waterproof and washable,” said Lintang.
The other superiority of E-Dom, according to Lintang, there is a snap button which can separate the bag and the wallet. Currently, the marketing of E-Dom is performed through social media and direct sales by the team members. They hope their E-Dom can be one of the ways to encourage the campaign on environment preservation by reducing the use of plastic bags.
