Universitas Gadjah Mada agrees to build cooperation with PT Bank BNI Syariah on education, research, and community services. The cooperation was signed by UGM Vice Rector of Planning, Finance, and Information System, Dr. Didi Achjari, S.E., Akt., M.Com. and Operational Director of PT Bank BNI Syariah, Junaidi Hisom, witnessed by UGM Rector, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng. and the President Director of PT Bank BNI Syariah, Abdullah Firman Wibowo, on Thursday (15/6) at UGM Main Office.
In the occasion, UGM Rector also handed Kagama Card towards the Director of PT Bank BNI Syariah while the Director handed Hasanah Card BNI Syariah, books, and scholarship of 100 million rupiahs.
“We hope through this cooperation, BNI Syariah not only offers banking services to the students’ education and scholarship but also keep spreading the benefits for others,” said Abdullah.
Despite being established in 2010, according to Abdullah, PT Bank BNI Syariah continues to gain public trust. This is showed by the many people that save their money in Bank BNI Syariah, thus increasing its assets which were initially 5 trillion rupiahs up to 600 percent to 30 trillion rupiahs.
According to Abdullah, there are many factors of this increase. For example, there has been a change in the transaction pattern which initially transaction in conventional banks gradually shifting to sharia banks, particularly among migrant workers such as those who work in Hongkong, Korea, and Tokyo.
“Another factor is demography in which more than 80 percent of Indonesia are Moslem. However, the contribution of sharia banks is only 5 percent, while 95 percent are dominated by the conventional ones because our conventional bank had been established since 1946 (BNI 46) while our sharia bank was established later in the 1990s. BNI Syariah itself was established in 2010. Therefore, this is the time for us to campaign the Indonesia Hasanah Action which aims to promote a good banking system (sharia system) where there is no compensation and profit obtained from the profit sharing system. We invite UGM to be the first in implementing Hasanah (good deeds) Action,” said Abdullah.
UGM Rector, Prof. Panut gives a positive response to this cooperation. He also delivers his acknowledgment towards PT Bank BNI Syariah for the scholarship given to UGM students. ZIS Scholarship of 100 trillion rupiahs is expected to help UGM students that have a financial problem.
“More than 30 percent of UGM students are receiving the Government Scholarship and having financial problems such as the termination of scholarship while their study has yet to finish, etc. Therefore, that scholarship can help UGM students to finish their study,” said Panut.
According to Panut, cooperations have to be done at universities, companies, and government in order to build a synergy in performing noble tasks. Through the synergy, the human resources can be more optimal.
“Through this cooperation, we hope we can manage our human resources better, help UGM students who have financial problems, and we hope this cooperation can be stronger and broader in performing the university tasks,” said UGM Rector.
