UGM mourned the death of a second-year student at Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational School UGM, Eko Nur As’adi. Eko passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2017, due to an accident happening in a building located between Department of Electrical and Information Engineering and Department of Mechanical Engineering, Vocational School UGM.
Dean of Vocational School UGM, Wikan Sakarinto, Ph.D. explained the chronology of the accident. At 4.30 p.m., Eko and his colleagues gathered to conduct an activity. Based on the information, one of the activities they did was taking panorama pictures from the top of the building.
“When Eko was walking, he slipped and stepped on asbestos until it broke and he fell down to the first floor,” said Wikan on Sunday (17/9).
After that, Eko was brought by his colleagues and security officer to Dr. Sardjito Hospital for obtaining medical treatment. However, despite having been given all possible medical treatment, Eko passed away at 7.07 p.m.
“Currently, the university is still investigating the case by collecting information from several witnesses,” said Wikan.
UGM Director of Students Affairs, Dr. Senawi, said the university has given maximum assistance since the victim was treated in ICU, communicating with his parents, taking care of the corpse until dispatching the corpse to his hometown in Bekasi, West Java.
“On behalf of all academicians of the Department, Vocational School, and Universitas Gadjah Mada, we offer our sincere condolences to Eko’s family. May God forgive his sin and the deceased can rest in peace,” said Senawi.
