Gadjah Mada Innovation and Technology (GAMA Ina-Tek) team as one of the excellent centers of innovation and technology at UGM currently finished their mission in International Standard Organization (ISO) General Assembly Meeting which was held on September 19, 2017, in Berlin, Germany. This event was attended by as many as 300 delegations from 100 nations in the world.
The leader of GAMA Ina-Tek Team, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D., said the main mission of UGM Team in Berlin was to promote and share their experience as well as achievements in making an international standard for the community-based landslide early warning system.
“Fortunately, it obtains high appreciation in the world forum as a model or system which needs to be replicated in the world,” said Dwikorita on Sunday (24/9).
According to Dwikorita, Indonesia is considered as an important country in the General Assembly because Indonesia becomes the first developing country that succeeds in making international standard on early warning system sector.
Therefore, Dwikorita further said derived standardization has to be developed from the existing one by making a new international standard for 2 points which are process and products that can encourage the implementation of the community-based landslide early warning system.
“Those points are essential in controlling and leading the global market on disaster technology sector for maintaining Indonesia’s sovereignty and leadership in the global market,” she added.
According to Dwikorita, in order to strengthen our competitiveness on system, process, and technology products, it requires several international standards development which becomes the world references as well as an instrument of global competitiveness power. The products of strategic research in Indonesia are expected to be the world reference and even dominate the global market. Therefore, this requires supportive policies and facilitation from the government.
“The landslide early warning system succeeds to be the reference of world standard thanks to strong support and facilitation from UGM and the government, including National Standardization Agency and National Disaster Management Agency as well as the support from Tahir Foundation-UGM Professorship Chair Program,” said Dwikorita.
