Raih Doktor Usai Teliti Demam Berdarah Dengue

dr.Ni Kadek Elmy Saniathi, M.Sc., Sp.A., medical lecturer from Universitas Warmadewa, Bali, has earned a doctorate from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) in her doctoral programme examination at Faculty of Medicine UGM on Thursday (18/1).

The lady born in Denpasar, 7 September 1979, defended her dissertation entitled Dengue Fever Prevalence: Study of Role of Souble E-selektin, Souble Intra Cellular Adhesion Molecule-1(sICAM-1) and Souble Vascular Cellular Adhesion Molecule-1 (sVCAM-1) in Overnutrition Children.

The research was done to know the role of nutritional status to dengue fever prevalence. Previous research suggested nutritional status had no role towards the severity of dengue fever. However, Pichainarong et.al (2006) reported obese patients had bigger risks to have dengue fever 2.7 times than non-obese patients.

The result of Elmy’s research in 6-12 years old children having dengue fever in Sanglah Denpasar hospital, it was known that the role of souble E-selektin showed inconsistent average rate is higher in hemorrhagic fever group, dengue hemorrhagic fever group, dengue hemorrhagic fever 3 and 4 degrees, and dengue hemorrhagic fever 1 and 2 degrees with overnutrition compared to normal nutrition.
Meanwhile, the role of sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 showed consistent average rate is higher in hemorrhagic fever group, dengue hemorrhagic fever group, dengue hemorrhagic fever 3 and 4 degrees, and dengue hemorrhagic fever 1 and 2 degrees with overnutrition compared to normal nutrition, but insignificant statistically.

Next, average rate of souble E-selektin, sICAM-1 and sVCAM-1 showed lower average in dengue hemorrhagic fever 3 and 4 degrees with overnutrition than in dengue hemorrhagic fever 1 and 2 degree with overnutrition.
