Ministry of Public Works and Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono, installed UGM Simple Rental Flat in Bayat, Klaten Regency, on Saturday (17/2).
This flat will be functioned as a residential area for UGM students who are conducting research or community service in Klaten Regency, particularly geology students who often hold field study in the area.
“The simple rental flat is fully managed by UGM where it can be utilized by the students to stay during practical academic activities. This place is comfortable, thus the students are expected to be more productive and Geology UGM is expected to produce more qualified fresh graduates than the previous years,” said Basuki.
Minister Basuki said the establishment of the flat with land area of 1,042.8 m2 was running well and the building has good quality. The flat, according to Minister Basuki, can become a role model for the similar establishment in other regions.
“Today I see the establishment of two simple rental flats, one is in Sendowo, Yogyakarta, and the other one is in Bayat, Klaten. The result is good enough and the value is 8 out of 10 points. I hope it can be a recommendation for others,” he added.
The Minister said the flat can be utilized by the students to develop their science capacity and provide benefits for the community.
“With better facilities, we hope the students will be able to conduct deeper study in Bayat,” he said. The flat is established with the building area of 59.25 x 17.6 m2. Inside this building, there are 54 general units and 2 units for disabled people with facilities including bed, table, and wardrobe.
Before visiting the location, the Minister visited the other UGM flat in Sendowo, Sleman Regency, which is located near UGM campus. The establishment of the seven-floor-flat had finished last year and it can be used to accommodate up to 300 people.
