Sustainable Agriculture Expert Passed Away

Pakar Pertanian Berkelanjutan, Prof. Djoko Prajitno Meninggal Dunia

The academic community of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) was grieving, because one of its best lecturers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Djoko Prajitno, M.Sc, passed away on Saturday (14/4) at 14.17 hours in Bethesda Hospital, Yogyakarta. The late Prof. Djoko Prajitno was professor of Faculty of Agriculture.

His body was buried in Kadisobo, Sleman regency, on Sunday, 15 April 2018. Prior to that, the body was laid at Balairung UGM to give opportunities to academic members to pay their last respect.

Chair of UGM Board of Professors, Prof. Dr. Ir. Putu Sudira, M. Sc, said during his life Prof. Djoko Prajitno had contributed much of his thoughts on agricultural cultivation and always paid attention to efforts to achieve sustainable agriculture.

According to Putu Sudira, in his professorship inaugural speech on 30 July 2009, Prof. Djoko Prajitno delivered his thoughts on sustainable agriculture which stated that integrated farming system of multi-commodities would promise bigger benefits than single agriculture system.

To get optimum results, the combination of integrated commodities needs to be in line with capabilities, resources, farmer’s need, and social economic factors. Thus, management aspect became important in this system as well as appropriate technology support.

"The thought of Prof. Prajitno strengthened our belief that multi-disciplined collaboration is a necessity if we want to contribute solutions to state problems,” said Putu Sudira in Balairung UGM on Sunday (15/4).

Dean of Faculty of Agriculture UGM, Dr, Jamhari, S.P., M.P, read out the biography of Prof. Djoko Prajitno who was born in Yogyakarta on 30 March 1948. He chaired the Agricultural Cultivation Department at the Faculty, later chaired the Laboratory of Computation and Statistics. The deceased left his wife, Laurentia Yustiana Hendaryatun, and two children, Dr. Ing. Donatus Hendra Amijaya, ST., MT, and Weny Tyas Listyani, S.Si., MT.
