This year Vocational School of UGM celebrates its 9th Anniversary themed “Synergy of SV UGM Teaching industry in Facing 4.0 Industrial Revolution”. This celebration becomes the momentum to enhance the school’s recognition and contribution as the arch of UGM research commercialization.
“Without Vocational School it will be difficult for UGM to develop innovation. This is why the school is very important,” said Vice Rector for Cooperation and Alumni, Dr. Paripurna, S.H., M.Hum., LL.M.
He delivered the statement when opening the anniversary event on Thursday (7/26) that started with mass gymnastics. In this celebration, Paripurna hoped that Vocational School can keep contributing to UGM and to the nation, especially in bearing competent graduates and creating products that can lower import dependency.
“A substantial amount of imported goods means a substantial amount of foreign exchange is traded. Vocational School plays an important task to help the country to run import substitution. This is the era of vocation.”
The opening also involved KAGAMA Virtual community who donated tens of orchids to plant around the school compound. The planted orchid species came from across Indonesia, including several rare orchid species. The planting activity was done by Vocational School academicians and some partners who attended the opening ceremony.
“There will be at least 20 types of orchids planted around the school. This is an attempt to preserve the original Indonesian orchids amidst the emergence of orchids from other countries,” said KAGAMA Virtual chairman, Retno Dwidarsih.
Aside from these two activities, the series of celebration will be held to the next four months which include workshops, national seminars, national product design competition, gatherings, and open senate meeting. The last agenda is a job fair in November.
“Congratulations to all of us. Hopefully, our campus can be better and more successful, and our plans can bring good results,” said Dean of Vocational School, Wikan Sakarinto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D.
