Membumikan Pancasila Dari Hal-hal Kecil

Making Pancasila more realistic can start from small and simple steps such as wearing traditional costumes, playing traditional music or even having traditional food.

This was said by a Hollywood young film director from Indonesia, Livi Zheng, when becoming speaker in the 10th Pancasila Congress in Senate Hall UGM on Friday (24/8).

According to Livi, Indonesia’s ethnic and cultural diversity were the real example of Pancasila among society. The power of Indonesia, said Livi, lies in such diversity.

“All can be started from daily simple things, such as wearing traditional costumes or having meals from their own region,” said Livi.

She said technology advancement would allow the promotion of Indonesia’s diversity in the world level. She had included this diversity like gamelan in some of her movie works.

“For example, in the Bali Beats of Paradise, I have promoted the gamelan,” said the lady born in Blitar, East Java.

Meanwhile, chairman of UGM student executive body, Obed Kresna Widyapratistha, agreed that Pancasila should not just be understood for its noble values, but should also be practised in daily lives. “Pancasila should not remain just as a slogan but should be practised,” said Obed.

On the other hand, vice-chairman of Forum Rektor Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Sutarto Hadi, assessed that currently the young generation had low understanding of the values of Pancasila. As a result, they were carried away and be turned into selfish individual that has no value to hold on to amidst the rapid flow of information. Thus, it is important to disseminate the idea of Pancasila, especially through higher learning, with easily discernible design and methods for the millenial generation.

“The instrument is there, the institution and legal basis are there, too, so we need not to add to new institutions,” said Sutarto.

Recommendation of 10th Pancasila Congress

The 10th Pancasila Congress that lasted from 23-24 August 2018 produced several recommendations. These include: systemic socialisation of Pancasila, the teaching of history, geography and culture since primary school to higher learning, enhancement of the Teaching of Pancasila Ideology Body (BPIP), promotion of Indonesia and Pancasila in the world, and facilitation of young generation to enhance Pancasila.
