Deputy Chairman of Anti-corruption Commission (KPK), Saut Situmorang, said corruptive behaviour emerged due to one’s weak integrity.
“Corruption is about integrity,” he said in a musical themed discussion on anti-corruption held by Bung Hatta Anti Corruption Award (BHACA) at PKKH UGM on Monday (17/9).
The vices can be avoided if one believes in the 9 values of life: honest, care, independent, disciplined, responsible, hard working, simple, courageous, and fair.
He said the nine values ought to be inherent in each individual. Not only can it turn them away from corruptive behaviour, but also open opportunities for the young generation to be future leaders, including chairperson of the KPK.
“At the KPK we develop those nine values,” he said.
Saut said KPK continued to voice the anti-corruption value through various means, including through music.
“Through music we voice the anti-corruption movement to the young generation,” he said.
In the event Saut played saxophone to the song of Story of My Life by One Direction band. He said this song related to his fight against corruption as symbolised by ‘chasing the clouds’.
“When pursuing your dream, it’s like chasing the clouds, and that is much like chasing a corrupter that never stops,” he concluded.
