Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has accepted 8,408 new students in diploma and undergraduate programmes.

At a ceremony on Saturday (3/8) in Grha Sabha Pramana courtyard, Rector of UGM, Prof.Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., Ph.D. received the new students.

“Welcome to the new students of Universitas Gadjah Mada. Please join the big family of UGM. We are so proud to accept you all,” said the Rector.

In academic year 2019/2020, UGM accepts 8,408 new students, consisting of 7,646 undergraduate and 762 diploma 4 or applied science programme. They will conduct an induction programme from 3-9 August.

Panut said these new students were the best who were chosen among 149,864 applicants. He expected them beside studying, they would also jointly build the nation.

“We are aware that currently the society is vulnerable amidst many issues that potentially can erode our state unity. The plurality that should be the strength instead has triggered tensions among communities,” he said. So, he hoped the UGM students and academic community play their role in sustaining the Pancasila state ideology.

He added, “Here you will study and make innovation not just for yourselves but also the state of Indonesia to be more advanced,” he said.

Vice-Rector of Education and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Djagal Wiseso Marseno, M.Agr., said as the embodiment of UGM as a national university, UGM accepted students from all provinces in the country. In addition, UGM accepted 23 students from Latvia, France, Norway, and Malaysia who take double degree programme.

During the induction event, Vice-Chairman of Presidential Advisory Board, Prof. Sri Adiningsih, told the new students to be always passionate about their studies and to later contribute to the state.
