UGM Lecturer from the Faculty of Pharmacy, Dr. rer nat. Ronny Martien., M.Sc., produces liquid hand sanitizer from green betel leaves and freely distributed it to the public.
“Together with several volunteers from several communities, we distributed 7,000 60 ml and 100 ml hand sanitizers free of charge to the community,” Ronny explained after the “Piper Antis” hand sanitizer distribution activity on Thursday (3/26).
He said the distribution of the hand sanitizer called Jogja Peduli carried out as a form of a clean and healthy life campaign to avoid the Coronavirus (Covid-19). Besides, it also helps the community overcome the scarcity of hand sanitizers during the Coronavirus pandemic. Hand Sanitizer from betel leaf has proven to kill bacteria and is safe to use.
Ronny said that the distribution of the hand sanitizer involved many communities, among others, from the UGM Center, Ngepit Konco, Healthy for Work, Pamong Jogja Community, Pogung Kidul PKK, Muda Mudi Pogung Kidul, and Gunung Mload Konco. The distribution of hand sanitizers undertaken with the target of people who are crossing the Yogyakarta Ring Road, especially at the Kaliurang intersection, the Monjali intersection, the Gejayan crossroad, and the Kranggan market. The hand sanitizer also distributed to the parking lot association on Jalan Kaliurang and Kentungan Selatan.
Not only around Yogyakarta, but hand sanitizers also distributed to the Bantul and Kulon Progo areas. The distribution in the two districts carried out by volunteers from the Pamong Jogja Pawiyatan community.
“The distribution of hand sanitizers by volunteers with the hit and run method. After dividing by cycling, they then move to another place to minimize crowd or mass gathering,” he explained.
Ronny said that at this time, he continued to make betel leaf hand sanitizers. The plan is that these products will be routinely distributed by volunteers who are members of the Jogja Peduli movement for free to the people of Yogyakarta.
“It is ready to be distributed up to 10,000 bottles, but the problem is it is difficult to get a small packaging bottle so that just 7,000 bottles of hand sanitizer were shared,” he said.
