The closing night of the 2023 Gelanggang Expo was celebrated with enthusiasm on Friday (18/8), attended by dozens of UGM Student Activity Units.
This year’s event was held under the theme “Symphony of Gelanggang’s Euphoria” for three days, from August 16 to 18, 2023. It was concluded splendidly with the presence of eagerly anticipated special guest stars.
“Thanks to the hard work of the organizing committee, Student Activity Units, performers, and all the students involved. I want to express my heartfelt gratitude. This year’s theme highlights the dynamics of UGM students, and hopefully, it can result in a symphony,” said Rafael Reinhart Sailendra, the Chair of the 2023 Gelanggang Expo.
The diligent efforts were highly satisfying as they successfully introduced new concepts and themes different from previous years.
The closing ceremony of the 2023 Gelanggang Expo was attended by more than 15,000 students from various batches, gathering to witness the collaboration of 55 UGM Student Activity Units and 494 performers who graced the stage and exhibitions.
“We hope students can recognize and discover the student activity units available at UGM to enhance their learning experience and not just focus on classroom studies. They can also hone their interests, talents, and potential,” stated Sailendra.
Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Sindung Tjahyadi, added this event reflects the students’ thirst for entertainment.
“We can propose to the university leadership to consider implementing this for major university events,” the director said.
He also expressed gratitude and appreciation to the Communication Forum of UGM Student Activity Units, the entire organizing committee, advisors of Student Activity Units, and all UGM students.
The success of Gelex 2023 has attracted the attention of many new students to join the units and participate in Gelanggang Expo in the coming years.
The closing performance was enlivened by the dance Goleg Ayun-Ayun Jugag by Swagayugama, one of the art-oriented Student Activity Units specializing in Yogyakarta’s distinctive arts. Additionally, Gamaband and UGM Choir also graced the closing stage.
As the main highlight, the guest star Diskoria performed the song “Galih dan Ratna,” igniting cheers from the audience that filled the Pancasila Field.
