Universitas Gadjah Mada got 57th place in the list of the QS Asia University Ranking 2021 that is considered as the best universities ranking in Asia. After that, two other universities in Indonesia are also on the list of the top 100. They are Universitas Indonesia (UI) at 59th place and the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) at 62nd place.
“I am grateful for UGM achievement in the 57th position of QS Asia University Ranking and accomplishing the best achievement for Indonesia so far,” said UGM Chancellor, Prof. Ir. Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU, ASEAN Eng., on Friday (27/11).
This year, 650 educational institutions are included in the ranking list of the best universities in Asia ever from previous years. Of these numbers, there are a total of 120 higher education located in China, the other countries with the most higher education in the ranking, followed by India, Japan, and South Korea.
In Indonesia itself, there are 30 state and private universities included in this ranking.
“These results are in accordance with the GM’s advanced improvements in enhancing the quality. This good quality will bring UGM to improve its contribution to the community, nation, and country, “said the Chancellor.
QS Asia University Ranking 2021 applies 11 assessment indicators. This indicator is similar to the QS World University Rankings indicator with several additional indicators and some adjustments.
The eleven indicators are the academic reputation that contributes to 30 percent of the assessment, employer reputation (20 percent), faculty/student ratio (10 percent), international research network (10 percent), citations per paper (10 percent), and papers per faculty (5 percent). On the academic reputation indicator, UGM achieved a fairly high score, namely 73.97, while on the indicator for employer reputation, the score achieved was 82.49.
On the other hands, there are also indicators of staff with a Ph.D. (5 percent), the proportion of international faculty (2.5 percent) and proportion of international students (2.5 percent), and proportion of inbound exchange students (2.5 percent) and proportion of outbound exchange students (2.5 percent).
Panut continued, in addition to performing some advancements to meet the assessment indicators, UGM also remains to strengthen its role in solving global problems.
He also appreciated some parties who have a lot of contributions to UGM progress from year to year.
“Throughout this achievement, I would like to thank the entire UGM family, government, and partners,” he said.
