SEMAR UGM continued to innovate in energy efficient cars research amidst the new normal circumstances. They developed two cars and competed in a well-known national level competition, namely the 2020 Energy-Efficient Car Contest (KMHE). This competition was organized online by the National Achievement Center of the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education in cooperation with the University of Indonesia as this year’s host from 15 October – 30 November 2020.
KMHE itself is a competition for energy-efficient vehicles designed by students from various universities throughout Indonesia. Around 110 teams from 74 universities participated in this 2020 KMHE. They competed in two categories, namely urban and prototype.
SEMAR team supervisor, Dr. Jayan Sentanuhady, said that SEMAR UGM launched two cars, Semar Urban and Semar Proto, in this competition. Semar Urban is an urban car similar to a common 4-wheeled city car with gasoline engine and an ergonomic driving position. Meanwhile, Semar Proto is a low-power electric motorized prototype car equipped with a super-efficient controller.
“After passing the selection stage, the two cars from Semar UGM were declared qualified to be the 2020 KMHE finalists. Both of them passed for each category, Semar Urban for the urban category and Semar Proto for the Semar prototype category,” said Jayan on Wednesday (2/12).
At the closing ceremony that took place on Monday (30/11), it was announced that SEMAR UGM won several titles, namely third place for Semar Urban in the urban category for body and chassis design criteria. Meanwhile, Semar Proto secured second and third place in the prototype category for vehicle design model criteria and body and chassis design criteria respectively.
