Inventor GeNose Kuwat Triyono Terima Penghargaan Anugerah UGM 2020

UGM presented the UGM Award in the 71st Anniversary of UGM, held for a limited offline and broadcast online, Saturday (19/12).

This time, the award was given to Prof. Drs. Kuwat Triyana, M.Si., Ph.D., who was an inventor of a Covid-19 quick detection tool called GeNose. A similar award was also presented to the Head of BMKG, Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D. Both of them have contributed greatly when carrying out their service duties and thus deserve an award.

“The Rector of UGM presented the 2020 UGM Award to Prof. Ir. Dwikorita Karnawati, M.Sc., Ph.D. and Prof. Drs. Kuwat Triyana, M.Sc., Ph.D., for their outstanding services in the fields of culture, nationality, statesmanship, humanity, and/or society in intellectual and/or social practices,” said UGM Rector Secretary, Drs. Gugup Kismono, M.B.A., Ph.D., while reading the excerpt from UGM Rector Decree No. 2560/UN1.P/KPT/Hukor/2020 on the 2020 UGM Award.

The awarding was presented directly by the UGM Rector, Prof. Ir., Panut Mulyono, M.Eng., D.Eng., IPU, ASEAN, Eng., at Grha Sabha Pramana UGM. It was one of the highlight events of the 71st Anniversary of UGM. Kuwat Triyana was both pleased and proud to receive the UGM Award. He hoped, in the future, he could contribute even greater to society and humanity.

“Alhamdulillah, I am grateful, representing the research team as well, who jointly made breakthroughs to solving the nation's problems during the Covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully, this award will increase our enthusiasm and the team to continue working and innovating for the people of Indonesia and the world,” he explained.

Kuwat Triyana is a lecturer at the Department of Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM as well as a researcher at the UGM Institute for Halal Industry and System (IHIS). He has been pursuing the study of material physics and instrumentation since 2008 and has produced various innovative products such as anti-smoke and bacterial masks made from nanofiber, electronic nose for quick detection of hazardous substance contamination in food, expired food products, halal products, and electronic tongue for halal authentication and quick, accurate, and portable detection of product authenticity and quality.

He was also the man behind GeNose development, a Covid-19 breath detection tool that can detect Covid-19 in the human body in less than two minutes.
