UGM Melantik 340 Insinyur Baru

Universitas Gadjah Mada inaugurated 340 new engineers, Tuesday (19/1). These engineers are graduates of the Professional Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, and the Professional Engineering Program, Faculty of Animal Science.

“In this sixth batch, Faculty of Engineering accepted 297 Engineering Professional Program students and inaugurated 284 today. Faculty of Animal Science accepted 58 students and inaugurated 56,” said Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UGM, Ir. Muhammad Waziz Wildan, Ph.D., in his report.

The inauguration ceremony for the engineers took place at the University Club UGM, involving several engineer representatives, while other graduates attended the ceremony online. Included in the list of new engineers were Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries of Indonesia, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, and Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Democratic Republic of Timor Leste, Pedro Dos Reis.

The inauguration procession involved the handover of professional engineer certificates by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering UGM, helmets by the Chairperson of the Indonesian Engineers Association (PPI), and KAGAMA pins by a KAGAMA representative.

Chairperson of the Indonesian Engineers Association Dr. Ir. Heru Dewanto, S.T., M.Sc. Professional education itself is part of the engineering value chain in the road map to the world-recognized professional engineers. According to him, professional engineering plays a significant role in finding solutions to existing problems in society, including during the Covid-19 pandemic, which demands innovations in various fields.

“Engineering plays a significant role in directing civilizations throughout history, bringing humans from one civilization to the next,” he added.

Heru also appreciated UGM for consistently organizing professional engineering programs that have produced the largest number of engineers among universities throughout Indonesia.

“UGM has produced 1,367 engineers to date. This fact places UGM as number one in Indonesia in producing engineers,” he said.

On the same occasion, Director General of Higher Education, Prof. Ir. Nizam, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPM., ASEAN Eng., congratulated the new engineers. Professional engineer, said Nizam, was a noble profession that could advance the nation and state.

“Good luck on your journey to serving the country, building the nation’s sovereignty in technology, food, infrastructure, and health with high integrity, and upholding the ethics and dignity of the Indonesian professional engineers,” he said.

At the inauguration ceremony, Nizam received an award as the first engineer of the Professional Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering. Apart from him, Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunjoto, Dip. HE., DEA., IPU, ASEAN Eng. was also awarded as the first lecturer at the Professional Engineering Program, Faculty of Engineering, and Dr. Ir.
