Tips Sukses Membangun Karir Bagi Fresh Graduate

CEO of PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional Ir. Ignatius Talluembang shared some tips to achieve a successful career with thousands of prospective graduates of the UGM undergraduate and diploma program for February 2021, Tuesday (16/2).

In the online graduation briefing, Ignatius conveyed four essential things that prospective UGM graduates needed to ponder and focus on when entering the working world.

“First, you must have passion because it will improve your performance, achievement, or the outcomes to be achieved,” he explained.

Secondly, graduates had to keep practicing their ways of working, dealing with, and solving problems. They also had to improve skills and knowledge to strengthen their ability to work and enhance their achievement.

Thirdly, they must have expectations or visions while working. These expectations would boost their energy or enthusiasm to work better.

“Fourthly, you must have goals. These are points for you to contemplate so that you can be the best in your career and climb the career ladder to the top when entering the working world,” Ignatius explained.

He also shared his principles that had always been instilled in his life called CIPS. It stood for Change, Innovation, Professional, and Speed and had driven him to achieve career success.

According to him, humans needed to make changes to follow a world that was constantly-changing and quickly-developing. Similarly, at work, they were also required to make changes to provide better results.

“If we work in the same way, the results will also be the same. Hence we need changes in the ways of working, procedures, technology, speed, and others to achieve better results and double productivity,” he explained.

Innovation was also something that was no less important than change. It could expectedly increase competitiveness.

Next was professional. Work required professionalism both in terms of competence and integrity.

“Competence and integrity build professionalism that brings you to be the best,” said the alumnus of the UGM Faculty of Engineering.

Lastly, speed was a component that also needed to be considered while working. Graduates must avoid the habit of procrastinating on work that could be done right away.

On this occasion, Head of the National Standardization Agency for Indonesia, Drs. Kukuh Syaefudin Achmad, M.Sc, was also present. He shared several successful tips in pursuing a career at the beginning of entering the world of work.

“The ones who generally win the competition are those who have more or earlier information. It is a valuable asset,” said Kukuh.

Graduates needed to try to provide more value or information when given the assignment. It was also necessary to pay attention to the environment, both the work environment and society.
