Universitas Gadjah Mada secured the first position of the best university in Indonesia according to the 4 International College & Universities (4ICU) UniRank 2021. Following UGM are Universitas Indonesia (2nd place) and Diponegoro University (3rd place). UGM Rector Prof. Panut Mulyono expressed his gratitude on Sunday (21/2) following this achievement.
“We are grateful that UGM is back topping the best university list in Indonesia according to the 4ICU ranking this year,” he said.
Panut understood that each element of the UGM family, such as academics and alumni, has put a lot of hard work in carrying out the duties stated in Three Pillars of Higher Education (Tridarma), allowing the university to get this achievement. He hoped that through this, UGM could contribute even more to the country and community.
“Thank you to the entire UGM family for their excellent work to enable UGM to improve and obtain more achievements. We also thank Kagama (alumni association) for their support to the alma mater,” he explained.
Director of the UGM Directorate of Systems and Information Resources, Widyawan Ph.D., said 4ICU UniRank ranked universities based on an algorithm. It obtained data from five unbiased and independent web metrics, namely Moz Domain Authority, Alexa Global Rank, SimilarWeb Global Rank, Majestic Referring Domains, and Majestic Trust Flow.
Only those universities that satisfy the following criteria are included in the rankings: universities must have official recognition, license, or accreditation from the national bodies, have four-year undergraduate programs and postgraduate programs, and conduct the courses through a traditional learning format (face-to-face).
“It shows that UGM is quite popular, as seen from a large number of visits to the UGM website and the number of external accesses to various sites under the ugm.ac.id domain,” Widyawan explained.
As to meet the increasing demand for digitalization, UGM has been improving its web development and providing quality digital content for audiences. The university also utilizes information technology in each aspect of its education services, including education, teaching, and research.
4ICU UniRank is a world’s university ranking provider that ranks universities based on their web presence and popularity. In this current ranking list, there are 577 universities across Indonesia included within the assessment.
