UGM Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering won 62 medals at the 2021 Agricultural Engineering-Annual Regional Convention (AE-ARC) held virtually by Universiti Putra Malaysia Bintulu Campus and the Malaysian Society of Agricultural and Food Engineer on 10 August. Students secured 21 gold medals, 28 silver, 10 bronze, and 3 The Most Favorite.
“Alhamdulillah, of the 38 teams that we sent, we managed to get 62 medals. It is a huge achievement for us. Hopefully, it will inspire others,” said team supervisor Andri Prima Nugroho, Friday (13/8).
Andri explained the study program greatly encouraged students to participate in this annual convention. As one of the five programs at UGM that receive grants from the Independent Campus Competition Program, the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering program ensures its students have the opportunity to engage in high-level research and competition.
Professor Lilik Soetiarso, Head of the Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering program, congratulated the students for their success. They remain enthusiastic, creative, and innovative despite limited interactions and activities due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The majority of 39 innovations we submitted on this occasion is the latest research findings in agrotechnology. These inventions will help improve science and technology and the Indonesian agrotechnology sector,” said the professor.
AE-ARC provides an opportunity for students in ASEAN countries to find ideas and innovations that can solve problems in agriculture and food engineering. This year, the competition takes the theme “Advancement of IR 4.0 for Agriculture Sustainability and Food Security” and features four categories: Poster, Research Output Video, Model Construction Video, and Research Paper. Students are free to choose one of the following sub-themes: agricultural engineering, food engineering, biotechnology, green technology, and agricultural waste management.
