UGM medical students Azaria Evan Trie Tana and Wisnu Pinandito Cahyo Hutomo won first place at the 2022 RespiQuizz. Following in second and third place were students from Universitas Hasanuddin and Universitas Indonesia.
This competition is organized by the Society of Respiratory Care Indonesia (Respina) to challenge clinical medical students across Southeast Asia on respiratory-related knowledge. The preliminary round was on 28 May 2022, and the final round was on 19 June 2022.
“In the first round, each team chose one of four envelopes containing ten MCQ-type questions and had to answer them within three minutes, while in the next round, each chose one of four envelopes containing SAQ-type questions. Each team member answered five questions,” said Azaria on Wednesday (22/6).
Azaria said she was grateful to have the opportunity to represent UGM. Amid Azaria and Wisnu’s busy schedule of clinical clerkships, they managed to find time to study effectively and prepare well for the RespiQuizz.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in the 2022 RespiQuizz and receive guidance from expert lecturers. Although it was held online, the competition emitted a real tough atmosphere. The other participants were of quality, but that didn’t demotivate us at all. We know that UGM is also great and can win this,” she said.
Azaria said the RespiQuizz had inspired the team to explore more about the respiratory system and expand their knowledge as aspiring doctors. She motivates her fellow students to keep improving their skills amid busy lectures and clinical rotations.
“For fellow students, don’t feel inferior facing great competitors because you are equally excellent. We thank UGM for facilitating us in competitions like this. We hope that this kind of attention will continue so that more students are interested in developing themselves,” she said.
