UGM was announced as the third-place winner of the 2022 National Mathematics and Natural Sciences Olympiad (ON-MIPA). The delegation took home 13 medals: two gold, three silver, five bronze, and three honorable mentions.
The olympiad was held on 18-23 September 2022 at Brawijaya University, the event host this year. UGM ON-MIPA team coordinator, Dr. Chotimah, said UGM sent 17 people to compete in the four fields, mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology.
The following is the list of winners from UGM:
Gold: Muhammad Raid Akram (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in mathematics and Farrel Alfaza Marsetyo (Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing) in biology
Silver: William Kosasih (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in mathematics, Nicholas Gilang Pradipta Kusuma (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in physics, and L.M. Aditya Isnan (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in chemistry
Bronze: Gusti Agung Rama Ayudhya (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in mathematics, Orlando Ferrari (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in mathematics, Juve Anthony (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in chemistry, Muhammad Arif Arkan (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in chemistry, Syalom Gita (Biology) in biology
Honorable Mention: Thomas Panogari (Engineering) in physics, Dayanu Ikhsanuddin (Mathematics and Natural Sciences) in chemistry, and Pratama Atha Nafi (Biology) in biology
The UGM delegates have gone through an internal selection, regional selection, and regular coaching before the competition.
“Hopefully, these medals can motivate other students to increase their productivity and achievements,” said Chotimah.
ON-MIPA is a national olympiad in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia. This year, 390 students from all over Indonesia participated in this competition.
