The Vocational College at Universitas Gadjah Mada (SV UGM) conducted a public lecture entitled “Unlock Your Potential: Preparing Yourself for the Professional World Through Skill and Leadership” on Friday, August 22, 2025, in the seminar room at TILC SV UGM.
During the event, SV UGM Dean, Professor Agus Maryono, emphasized that achieving a successful career cannot be done instantly; it must be built step by step.
“Vocational graduates are encouraged to keep learning and pursue further education to reach broader networks and gain knowledge from more experienced lecturers,” he urged.
Dean Maryono further emphasized the importance of knowledge relevance, adaptability to industry needs, and thoughtful life planning, encompassing setting employment goals and promotions, as well as achieving other life milestones.
The President Director of PT Tira Austenite Tbk, Totok Indratno, who is also an alumnus of SV UGM, reassured graduates not to fear the future.
He described the company, part of the Sintesa Group and listed publicly since 1993, as a key player in the steel and gas industry across various regions of Indonesia.
He also highlighted the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between SV UGM and PT Tira.
“This collaboration includes internship opportunities, alumni recruitment, research support, and involvement of practitioners as lecturers,” he stated.
Muh. Thamrin Pratikto, Head of the Human Capital and General Affairs Division at PT Tira and a graduate of UGM’s Faculty of Psychology, shared personal insights on discovering career meaning, recognizing personal potential, and instilling spiritual values in career planning.
He emphasized that a career is not merely a job, but a path to contributing and finding purpose.
“We must design a career plan and life timeline to be more prepared for the dynamics of the working world,” he said.
Yanto Herlianto, Chair of the SV UGM Alumni Family (Kavogama), noted that SV UGM graduates hold an advantage and competence due to their internship experiences.
He also introduced Kavogama’s role, founded in 2016, as an alumni platform that supports current students with internship information, job vacancies, and industry study tours.
Herlianto added that collaboration with industry remains a core commitment of SV UGM and Kavogama, aligning education with industry needs while providing students with opportunities to develop into exceptional professionals.
