Fifty-five student activity units (UKM) and 20 communities participated in the 2024 Gelanggang Expo (GELEX), held at Pancasila Field on Aug. 21-22.
This exhibition serves as a platform for new students to explore opportunities to channel their talents in the arts, sports, and other areas of interest.
The Vice-Rector for Student Affairs, Community Service, and Alumni, Dr. Arie Sujito, emphasized that participation in a UKM allows students to nurture their talents and discover their full potential, which can lead to greater achievements.
“Believe that student success is not solely dependent on classroom learning. More importantly, engaging in activities to develop one’s potential is crucial. The Student Activity Units showcased at Gelanggang Expo provide just that,” said Dr. Sujito.
Gelanggang Expo is an annual event organized by the Directorate of Student Affairs at UGM. It allows new students to become acquainted with the various UKMs and communities at Universitas Gadjah Mada.
This year, in 2024, the Gelanggang Expo carries the theme “Brilliant Expressions of Gelanggang,” inviting students to embark on a journey through the fantasy world presented in the various booths, decorations, and events held at this year’s GELEX.
The opening ceremony of GELEX this year began with a captivating performance by Formasi, which got the attending students moving to the rhythm of their songs. This was followed by an equally impressive performance by Sound of Tejo.
After the opening ceremony, the event continued with a stunning performance titled “Asmara Dua Alam,” a collaboration between several UKMs, including the Surakarta-Style Javanese Arts Unit (UKJGS), Mapagama, and the Diving Unit.
The event concluded spectacularly with a collaborative musical performance titled “Melodia Fantasia,” featuring the Gama Band, the Gadjah Mada Chamber Orchestra (GMCO), and the UGM Student Choir.
