Fifty-six international students from various countries participated in the 7th Summer Course Program organized by the UGM Faculty of Animal Science from July 10 to July 21.
Participants came from China, South Korea, Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand, Timor Leste, Afghanistan, Sudan, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
The theme for this summer course was “Challenges and Opportunities for Livestock and Agricultural Production in Responding to the Issue of the Global Food Crisis.”
Dean of the Faculty of Animal Sciences, Professor Budi Guntoro, stated that the summer course aims to strengthen networking among Asian students to embody the spirit of Asian collaboration.
He emphasized that students must understand global issues such as food security threats and pandemics.
“We want the students to establish networks for sharing knowledge and experiences in international activities. Along with sharing experiences, participants can also showcase cultural diversity, with a spirit of networking for a better future life,” he explained.
Professor Guntoro elaborated that the summer course program consisted of public lectures, cultural promotion, practical sessions, and recreational activities.
Additionally, participants had the opportunity to learn about Yogyakarta’s culture and delve deeper into specific subjects or explore new fields of interest.
“Participants are encouraged to enjoy various experiences outside the classroom, such as learning traditional musical instruments and visiting historical sites in Yogyakarta,” he concluded.
