Ninety students from 10 dentistry faculties in ASEAN and Japan participated in a summer course program at the UGM Faculty of Dentistry, engaging in dental learning and discussions for seven days from August 14 to 20, 2023.
Some of the universities sending their students to this summer course include
- Malaysia: Universiti Malaya, Universiti Sains Malaysia, and International Islamic University Malaysia
- Thailand: Khon Kaen University and Thammasat University
- Brunei: Universiti Brunei Darussalam
- The Philippines: The University of the Philippines and University Centro Escolar Makati
- Myanmar: Universiti Yangoon Mandalay
- Japan: Tokushima University.
Vice Dean for Research, Community Service, and Cooperation at the UGM Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Trianna Wahyu Utami, mentioned that the 2023 summer course is organized through a collaboration between the Faculty of Dentistry and the Biomedical Engineering Program at the UGM Faculty of Engineering.
The event took the theme “Smart Digital Health Technology: Shaping the Future Education and Clinical Practice in Dentistry.”
“This summer course is the 3rd time it’s been held by the Faculty of Dentistry and takes place for a week with various activities,” she explained on Tuesday (August 15).
The Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Suryono, opened the summer course. Additionally, three deans and one vice dean attended the opening ceremony from the four partner institutions, who also signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the summer course program.
UGM Vice-Rector for Education and Learning, Professor Wening Udasmoro, expressed hope that this summer course program can be held annually. This initiative aims to foster further collaborations in research and publication activities.
Following the opening ceremony, a Dean’s Forum was conducted, attended by all the deans from the partner faculties.
During this forum, the Dean of the UGM Faculty of Dentistry challenged all attending deans to uplift the prominence of the dentistry field in ASEAN and enhance its impact on society.
The Dean’s Forum agreed to continue collaborations not only in student mobility but also in other areas.
