Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) conferred professional engineer titles on 901 new engineers in the second period of 2025, held at Grha Sabha Pramana on Tuesday (Jan. 13). In this period, there were 762 new engineers from the Faculty of Engineering, 104 from the Faculty of Animal Science, and 35 from the Faculty of Forestry. With this addition, the total number of UGM professional engineer graduates has reached 7,314.
Dean of the UGM Faculty of Animal Science, Professor Budi Guntoro, congratulated the new engineers on completing the professional engineering program. Amid global challenges, he stated, Indonesia needs human resources who are not only academically competent but also resilient, innovative, and possess strong integrity.
According to Professor Guntoro, engineers in the life sciences play a key role in strengthening food security, ensuring the availability of animal and plant-based protein, increasing national food productivity, and guaranteeing animal safety and welfare.
Indonesia needs new engineers capable of creating effective, efficient, sustainable, and technology-based food industries, ranging from food systems, feed, digital agriculture, and biotechnology to supply chain governance.
Moreover, the food system faces increasingly complex challenges, including climate change, limited land availability, animal welfare issues, global market fluctuations, and demands for efficiency and sustainability.
“As UGM alumni, you inherit scholarly integrity and a commitment to the nation’s interests, values that will serve as a moral compass in every professional decision you make,” Professor Guntoro said.

Rudianta Cahyana Nugraha, one of the professional engineer graduates from the Faculty of Forestry, said that the professional engineer title he earned is expected to contribute to national progress, particularly in promoting more sustainable forest management.
“In an era that demands professionalism and expertise, we represent foresters who manage forests that are currently under intense scrutiny due to various disasters. This is a challenge that must be addressed,” he said.
Chair of the Indonesian Engineers Association (Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia/PII), Dr. Ilham Akbar Habibie, emphasized that new engineering graduates are required not only to possess academic competence and technical skills, but also to uphold integrity and leadership.
“Engineers are not only expected to build, but also to design a future that is resilient, inclusive, and just,” he remarked.

On the same occasion, Dr. Habibie also expressed his appreciation for UGM’s professional engineering education program, which plays an important role in preparing engineers in Indonesia who are ready to practice and contribute to society.
“I extend my highest appreciation to UGM for its commitment and consistency in maintaining the quality of national engineering education,” he said.
