UGM has received scholarship funds from Lippo Group that are aimed for underpriviledged students. Symbolically, the funds were presented by BMB LG on Tuesday, 2 December 2014 in Jakarta.
UGM Student Affairs Director, Drs. Senawi, M.P., appreciated Lippo Group for their commitment in building the nation in terms of education through the scholarship funds.
“We highly appreciate Lippo Group, the assistance would accelerate the effort to build the nation by funding the underprivilledged students that are outstanding so they can pursue their education,” he said on Thursday (11/12) when receiving the Lippo Group delegates at UGM.
Despite the many scholarships already received at UGM, Senawi admitted the funds were not adequate to fund all the underprivildeged students.
“Currently, only some 33.8 percent of students have received funds,” he said.
He added UGM students are mostly underpriviledged, 74% are in just enough financial condition while 30% are poor. Thus, he opens the door for partners to help support the students financially.
“This year there are 714 students having no financial support. Each year we admit up to 10 thousands,” he said.
Roy N Mandey, Associate Director of PT. Multipolar, said the scholarship was part of the Lippo Group (BMB LG) programmes to help outstanding students as a form of their commitment in education. In 2014, Lippo Group donates up to Rp150,000,000 to ten universities, including UGM.
“With this scholarship we hope to support the smooth study of students and help them attain success,” he said.
