The Kagama Cup XVIII Tennis Tournament 2025 was once again held as part of the 76th Anniversary of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). This year’s competition brought together 120 participants from the UGM Alumni Family (Kagama UGM) across various cohorts. The tournament took place on September 6 to 7, 2025, at the UGM Outdoor Tennis Court.
The committee chair, Dr. Wikan Sakarinto, stated that the tournament not only served as a platform to pursue sporting interests but also as a space for reunion and nostalgia on campus.
“Please enjoy the competition, the reunion, and the nostalgia here,” said Dr. Sakarinto.
He further emphasized that the essence of the tournament lies in upholding sportsmanship while strengthening bonds of kinship and camaraderie. He also extended his gratitude for the support of all parties, including sponsors.
“Once again, to all our sponsors, we are very grateful. Each year, more sponsors have joined to support this event,” he added.
Gatot Saptadi, coordinator of Kagama representatives in Yogyakarta, expressed his appreciation to all parties involved in organizing the competition. He noted that such activities can strengthen the ties among Kagama UGM.
The competition also aligns with the overarching theme of this year’s Anniversary: a healthy, independent university that supports national resilience.
“We must emphasize the concept of a healthy campus, not only in terms of physical health but in all aspects,” Saptadi said.
Among the participants was Joko Nugroho, an alumnus of the Faculty of Engineering (FT UGM) class of 1994, who joined the competition for the first time. He expressed his enthusiasm throughout the tournament, from the technical meeting to the matches.
“It was quite exciting, especially since the goodie bag included a T-shirt, wristbands, and other nice items,” he said.
The opening ceremony of this year’s Kagama Cup was symbolically launched by former UGM Rector, Professor Panut Mulyono, together with Dr. Sakarinto and the committee, by hitting tennis balls toward the participants across the net, and those who successfully caught the balls received special gifts from the organizers and sponsors.
