Bidadari Kalila Artadhya is one of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)’s graduates who participated in the commencement ceremony at the end of May. She made history as the first graduate of the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) at the UGM Faculty of Animal Science (Animal Science UGM).
The Jakarta-born graduate completed her studies in just 3 years, 5 months, and 14 days.
“I’m truly grateful for this achievement. It’s the result of my own efforts, supported by my family, lecturers, and friends,” said Artadhya on Tuesday, Jun. 10, 2025.
As the fastest graduate of the IUP at the faculty, she expressed her joy at experiencing an academic environment that was both dynamic and multicultural.
Alongside students from various backgrounds, she felt fortunate to have the opportunity to study abroad.
Through her participation in a student exchange program, she gained a fresh perspective and a renewed drive for personal development.
The program’s requirement to use English in all classes further encouraged her to be active in discussions.
“As students, we had many opportunities to engage in class discussions. I also made the most of my time with lecturers to talk about recent research I came across,” she shared.
For her final research project prior to graduation, Artadhya focused on students’ understanding of the 2020 Five Domains Model of Animal Welfare.
This model, she explained, aims to facilitate the systematic, structured, comprehensive, and coherent assessment of animal welfare.
“In its 2020 version, the model includes guidelines for evaluating the impact of human behavior on animals,” Artadhya said in reference to her research.
Aside from her academic pursuits, she was actively involved in AIESEC. She took part in various committee activities and worked as a department assistant.
During her studies, Artadhya developed a strong interest in the course on Animal Welfare and Behavior.
She had long been curious about whether animals were harmed in livestock and other industries.
She was grateful that her curiosity was addressed through this course.
“It provided a comprehensive explanation, from assessing animal welfare to understanding how policies differ across countries,” she explained.
When asked about her tips for graduating earlier than the standard timeframe, she said she lived by the principle of enjoying every step of the journey while applying mindfulness and effective time management.
“There were many challenges along the way, but each of them helped shape me into a better and renewed version of myself,” she reflected.
