In its illustrious 59-year journey, the Faculty of Psychology at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has been a stalwart contributor across various realms of the tri dharma of higher education.
This enduring commitment has left an indelible mark, propelling the advancement and refinement of psychological science, learning, practice, and services.
The celebration of its 59th anniversary, held on Monday (Jan. 8), served as a poignant moment to fortify the commitment and synergy within the academic community, propelling the Faculty of Psychology to even greater heights on the global stage.
“The vision of becoming a trailblazer among national psychology faculties with world-class quality guides our development for 2024. Our orientation towards international acclaim is not merely a pursuit of rankings,” Dr. Rahmat Hidayat, the Dean of the Faculty of Psychology, said.
“Behind the internationally measured reputation, gauged through credible ranking systems and instruments, lies the substance of quality and the assurance of reliable graduate competence.”
The genesis of the UGM Faculty of Psychology traces back to the Department of Psychology within the UGM Faculty of Education.
Evolving into the Psychology Section and coming under the UGM Rector’s direct leadership after the Faculty of Education merger with IKIP Yogyakarta, the Psychology Section officially gained faculty status on Jan. 8, 1965.
This significant date has since been celebrated as the UGM Faculty of Psychology anniversary.
Under the theme “Bestari dalam Adaptasi, Bersama Membangun Negeri” (Smart in Adaptation, Together Building the Nation), this year’s celebration symbolized the faculty’s astuteness in adaptation and its collective commitment to nation-building.
During the pinnacle event, the dean presented a comprehensive report encompassing academic and student affairs, support units, research, publications, intellectual property rights, community service, collaborations, research, community service implementation units, human resources, infrastructure, and finances for 2023.
“All the triumphs attained in 2023 are a testament to the cooperation and mutual support among all stakeholders. In particular, our gratitude extends to the dedicated lecturers, educational staff, students, alumni, and our invaluable partners,” expressed Dr. Hidayat.
The event drew the presence of UGM Rector Professor Ova Emilia, alongside deans from various faculties. The rector congratulated and appreciated the Faculty of Psychology’s achievements in her address.
“A heartfelt thank you to the entire academic community and esteemed predecessors who, for 59 years, have toiled and innovated to propel the field of psychology forward through diverse programs encompassing the tri dharma of higher education,” she remarked.
The rector envisions the Faculty of Psychology continuing to be a cornerstone of knowledge, shaping resilient and exceptional individuals for the future. Innovation, ideas, and scientific initiatives are anticipated to flourish through collaborative efforts with diverse stakeholders.
“Addressing societal challenges necessitates the intervention of multiple disciplines,” she emphasized.
