Hundreds of Christian students from Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) attended a Spiritual Revival Service (Kebaktian Kebangunan Rohani/KKR) at the Christian Faith Development Hall, located within the UGM Faith and Spirituality Center, on Friday (Aug. 22). The event was held to welcome new Christian students of UGM for the 2025/2026 academic year.
The service drew significant attention with the presence of Elia Myron, a theologian and religious history content creator.
The session concluded with an engaging discussion where students actively asked questions.
“I would like to congratulate the new students here for being admitted to this campus, which is highly sought after by many across Indonesia, including myself, as I once dreamed of studying here,” said Myron.
In her sermon, Myron invited the new Christian students to reflect on why they had arrived at UGM in the first place.
She emphasized that while many pursue the best places in life, not all are aware of their ultimate purpose.
She encouraged students to contemplate the meaning of life itself.
“Today we will learn about what the essence of life truly is, and how this essence relates to Him who is called Christ, the giver and owner of life,” he explained.
Myron stressed that regardless of religion, belief, or ethnic background, whether Chinese, Bangkanese, Riau, Manadonese, Russian, or Brazilian, the ultimate purpose of humanity is life.
People work hard to earn money, pursue education through high school and university, and seek better job opportunities to sustain their lives.
“Life is what humanity seeks; life is what humanity strives for. As young people, you and I go to school step by step so that we can continue to live and uphold life itself, which is longed for by all humankind,” she remarked.
According to Myron, intellectual ability alone is not enough for UGM students.
They must also cultivate their spirituality so that all aspects of life can run in harmony.
“As students, we must be aware of our weaknesses. We need to fully surrender ourselves to God, through the Church, through fellowship, through communities of faith, so that we may be reminded of our ultimate purpose,” she concluded.
